"content": "
\n

We’re happy to announce the ink detection prize for this competition will be increasing to $100k. The prize page has been updated accordingly.

\n

After further consultation with experts in reading these documents, we have decided to make a minor metric adjustment. The current Dice metric (equivalent to the F1 score) will be adjusted to use the F0.5 score (also known as FBeta, where Beta = 0.5). The slight favoring of precision over recall introduced by this change will improve the ability to form coherent characters out of detected ink areas. All existing submissions have been rescored under the new metric and the evaluation page has also been updated.

\n

We are announcing the creating of “open source prizes”, staring with 3x $2000 prizes. These prizes are for any open source or publicly available work. This could be Kaggle notebooks, software or documentation useful for the grand prize, research notes, or anything else (it doesn't have to be related to Kaggle). For more details see the Challenge Overview page on the Vesuvius Challenge website and the announcement on Substack.

\n
",

The adjustment to the F0.5 score metric will enhance precision over recall and improve the readability of detected ink areas.
