They are a natural component in the ecosystem, although they are imbalanced now on the GBR. </p>\n<p>I think gene drives may be a powerful tool in some contexts, but I think we should be extraordinarily wary of gene drives that affect the entire species, as opposed to eradicating invasive populations in isolated environments (i.e., islands). </p>",
