      "content": "<p>This is a <em>wild guess</em>, but this might be one of the reasons:<br>\nThere's already 10 active competitions with rewards on Kaggle.<br>\nAnd there's about 200k users on kaggle. (I got this number by adding the users <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/rankings?group=competitions\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)<br>\nIf we assume 5% of all users to participate in competitions, that's 1k participants per competition, which is very low. Maybe that's why they cannot launch this competition to the main section? So they extended the deadline to 8 months, and maybe plan move it to the main section later.</p>",

It just means one or more of the above were at play (or, in the case of the hundreds of independently run competitions launched each month, that they were never intended to run on the main page).</p>",
