they call it passion, yes they are right :)\ni was always poor student in school college(precisely : top 30 worst students), why? in school college i was always asked to solve mathematical equations, memorizing graphs but i didn't know how we can use those maths in real life for problem solving so i never got interest solving those because i was like \"if i don't know what i am going to do in life with this math then i am not gonna store them in my head just for getting marks\" (no school/college teacher could teach me why those equations are important in real life and how do we use them in problem solving)
\n\n
but professor andrew ng showed me like what is backpropagation and what is chain rule of derivatives and how those equations work under the hood to make neural net working for solving real life problems <3 and that is when i felt in love with math for the first time\ni know it is too late,if i had teacher like this in school college then i could be the most attentive student like i was in andrew ng's class.
\n\n
when i first started my ML journey at that time in my university every CS student was busy solving competitive programming problems but i found machine learning very interesting so wanted to learn ML but i saw no one around me has got even basic ML knowledge, so no one around me could guide well for machine learning. i remember these are the sentences that i received back then for my question about ML career :
\n\n
my question : \"i am loving machine learning,i want to become a data scientist, is it a wrong idea / decision?\"
\n\n
answer 1 : \"mobassir,machine learning is the hottest subject now but what happens if after 10 years some other technology replaces machine learning? what will you do? so do codeforces competition\"
\n\n
answer 2 : \"in Bangladesh very very less companies work on machine learning problems, you won't get job with this skill so learn web/android framework and regularly solve competitive problems only\"
\n\n
answer 3 : \"if you don't have math/statistics knowledge then don't go for machine learning\"
\n\n
i got a lot of answers like those and became extremely frustrated about my career and very worried about the decision that i should make,i mean i had to answer these questions : \n1. mobassir you are not gonna get any help from your surroundings as they don't have ML skills,so you still want to take risk?\n2. mobassir ML job market is almost empty in bangladesh, what if you don't get any job with this skill?\n3. you were among top 50 poor students in school, college who has lots of lacking, with such poor math/statistics knowledge you still want to learn ML? what if after few months you find it extremely difficult?
\n\n
i answered everything like this : \n1. i will learn from zero and ready to spend as much time as it requires\n2. i don't need anyone, internet is my friend\n3. passion shouldn't get beaten by job market(i don't care about money, job and for me :\"passion matters\" and there should always be way of earning little money for survival and that's more than enough for very simple person like me).\n4. why am i asking about my career decision to nearby people? they will always tell me what to do based on what they are doing (they all tried to convince me that nothing is more important than competitive programming and without it you are nothing :) because they were all following the same path)so i should listen to \"MYSELF\" only and that is what i learnt from the alchemist book by Paulo Coelho :)
\n\n
and then this frustrated kid got lots of motivation from professor andrew ng(only teacher who could make me understand that ML matters,no matter where you are from) so thanks to my most favorite teacher :)
\n\n
after finishing that i was like \"i know basic ML,i will do kaggling now\"
\n\n
i signed up in kaggle and found interest for computer vision but i saw now i need to learn a lot of new things that i didn't learn in andrew ng's machine learning class but i saw even a lot of people from non coding background here in kaggle and doing great job already,so i was extremely motivated and told me that \"you spend 3 years on C programming and finished teach yourself c book\" and solved few competitive problems as well, you at least know C,look a lot of people here came from physics,BBA etc background,if they can then you should do even better :)
\n\n
i see a lot of great teacher like andrew ng here and i also can always ask silly questions to them(if i don't understand and they never mind replying)\nthey are people like sir chris deotte, heng, andrew etc etc so i have nothing to worry about now :)
\n\n
i started kaggling less than 2 years ago
\n\n
Thank you so much brother @mdfahimreshm and everyone here for your wishes! Like at first when I try to learn ML by doing his course I feel the same as you mention that what is the necessity for doing that kind of math which I don't see any uses. So I Personally prefer that first should learn the basics of ML and then Do the Andrew Ng Course it does better easier.
",

      "content": "
i still remember how it all started. it took me 77 days to finish this coursera course when i was a 3rd year undergraduation student : https://www.coursera.org/learn/machine-learning i spent 77 days on that course with andrew ng,during that time i became extremely addicted to machine learning(thanks to the awesome lectures of andrew ng which motivated me the most,he is the best teacher of my life)) and as a result i sacrificed university quiz, presentations, exams etc even though i had high CGPA till then.\nwhy i did that? they call it passion, yes they are right :)\ni was always poor student in school college(precisely : top 30 worst students), why? in school college i was always asked to solve mathematical equations, memorizing graphs but i didn't know how we can use those maths in real life for problem solving so i never got interest solving those because i was like \"if i don't know what i am going to do in life with this math then i am not gonna store them in my head just for getting marks\" (no school/college teacher could teach me why those equations are important in real life and how do we use them in problem solving)
\n\n
but professor andrew ng showed me like what is backpropagation and what is chain rule of derivatives and how those equations work under the hood to make neural net working for solving real life problems <3 and that is when i felt in love with math for the first time\ni know it is too late,if i had teacher like this in school college then i could be the most attentive student like i was in andrew ng's class.
\n\n
when i first started my ML journey at that time in my university every CS student was busy solving competitive programming problems but i found machine learning very interesting so wanted to learn ML but i saw no one around me has got even basic ML knowledge, so no one around me could guide well for machine learning. i remember these are the sentences that i received back then for my question about ML career :
\n\n
my question : \"i am loving machine learning,i want to become a data scientist, is it a wrong idea / decision?\"
\n\n
answer 1 : \"mobassir,machine learning is the hottest subject now but what happens if after 10 years some other technology replaces machine learning? what will you do? so do codeforces competition\"
\n\n
answer 2 : \"in Bangladesh very very less companies work on machine learning problems, you won't get job with this skill so learn web/android framework and regularly solve competitive problems only\"
\n\n
answer 3 : \"if you don't have math/statistics knowledge then don't go for machine learning\"
\n\n
i got a lot of answers like those and became extremely frustrated about my career and very worried about the decision that i should make,i mean i had to answer these questions : \n1. mobassir you are not gonna get any help from your surroundings as they don't have ML skills,so you still want to take risk?\n2. mobassir ML job market is almost empty in bangladesh, what if you don't get any job with this skill?\n3. you were among top 50 poor students in school, college who has lots of lacking, with such poor math/statistics knowledge you still want to learn ML? what if after few months you find it extremely difficult?
\n\n
i answered everything like this : \n1. i will learn from zero and ready to spend as much time as it requires\n2. i don't need anyone, internet is my friend\n3. passion shouldn't get beaten by job market(i don't care about money, job and for me :\"passion matters\" and there should always be way of earning little money for survival and that's more than enough for very simple person like me).\n4. why am i asking about my career decision to nearby people? they will always tell me what to do based on what they are doing (they all tried to convince me that nothing is more important than competitive programming and without it you are nothing :) because they were all following the same path)so i should listen to \"MYSELF\" only and that is what i learnt from the alchemist book by Paulo Coelho :)
\n\n
and then this frustrated kid got lots of motivation from professor andrew ng(only teacher who could make me understand that ML matters,no matter where you are from) so thanks to my most favorite teacher :)
\n\n
after finishing that i was like \"i know basic ML,i will do kaggling now\"
\n\n
i signed up in kaggle and found interest for computer vision but i saw now i need to learn a lot of new things that i didn't learn in andrew ng's machine learning class but i saw even a lot of people from non coding background here in kaggle and doing great job already,so i was extremely motivated and told me that \"you spend 3 years on C programming and finished teach yourself c book\" and solved few competitive problems as well, you at least know C,look a lot of people here came from physics,BBA etc background,if they can then you should do even better :)
\n\n
i see a lot of great teacher like andrew ng here and i also can always ask silly questions to them(if i don't understand and they never mind replying)\nthey are people like sir chris deotte, heng, andrew etc etc so i have nothing to worry about now :)
\n\n
i started kaggling less than 2 years ago
\n\n
Thank you so much brother @mdfahimreshm and everyone here for your wishes! Without the support and guidance from the kaggle community, I wouldn't be where I am today. So thank you very much! :)
\n\n
Today i am very proud that i rejected all surrounding people's guidance and followed my own, which was toward \"my passion\" \nThe best decision i ever made is when \"i listened to myself\", otherwise i couldn't meet with so many awesome people like i have had in kaggle, thank you for teaching me \"Machine Learning\" :)
",

But I have a query about Andrew Ng ML course in Coursera is that sometimes I think his course is not suitable for beginners. Like at first when I try to learn ML by doing his course I feel the same as you mention that what is the necessity for doing that kind of math which I don't see any uses. So I Personally prefer that first should learn the basics of ML and then Do the Andrew Ng Course it does better easier.
",

"954969": "Congratulations @mobassir , for becoming 1st ever Bangladeshi Notebook Grandmaster",
"955285": "i still remember how it all started. it took me 77 days to finish this coursera course when i was a 3rd year undergraduation student : https://www.coursera.org/learn/machine-learning i spent 77 days on that course with andrew ng,during that time i became extremely addicted to machine learning(thanks to the awesome lectures of andrew ng which motivated me the most,he is the best teacher of my life)) and as a result i sacrificed university quiz, presentations, exams etc even though i had high CGPA till then.\nwhy i did that? they call it passion, yes they are right :)\ni was always poor student in school college(precisely : top 30 worst students), why? in school college i was always asked to solve mathematical equations, memorizing graphs but i didn't know how we can use those maths in real life for problem solving so i never got interest solving those because i was like \"if i don't know what i am going to do in life with this math then i am not gonna store them in my head just for getting marks\" (no school/college teacher could teach me why those equations are important in real life and how do we use them in problem solving)\n\nbut professor andrew ng showed me like what is backpropagation and what is chain rule of derivatives and how those equations work under the hood to make neural net working for solving real life problems <3 and that is when i felt in love with math for the first time\ni know it is too late,if i had teacher like this in school college then i could be the most attentive student like i was in andrew ng's class.\n\nwhen i first started my ML journey at that time in my university every CS student was busy solving competitive programming problems but i found machine learning very interesting so wanted to learn ML but i saw no one around me has got even basic ML knowledge, so no one around me could guide well for machine learning. i remember these are the sentences that i received back then for my question about ML career : \n\nmy question : \"i am loving machine learning,i want to become a data scientist, is it a wrong idea / decision?\"\n\nanswer 1 : \"mobassir,machine learning is the hottest subject now but what happens if after 10 years some other technology replaces machine learning? what will you do? so do codeforces competition\"\n\nanswer 2 : \"in Bangladesh very very less companies work on machine learning problems, you won't get job with this skill so learn web/android framework and regularly solve competitive problems only\"\n\nanswer 3 : \"if you don't have math/statistics knowledge then don't go for machine learning\"\n\ni got a lot of answers like those and became extremely frustrated about my career and very worried about the decision that i should make,i mean i had to answer these questions : \n1. mobassir you are not gonna get any help from your surroundings as they don't have ML skills,so you still want to take risk?\n2. mobassir ML job market is almost empty in bangladesh, what if you don't get any job with this skill?\n3. you were among top 50 poor students in school, college who has lots of lacking, with such poor math/statistics knowledge you still want to learn ML? what if after few months you find it extremely difficult?\n\n\ni answered everything like this : \n1. i will learn from zero and ready to spend as much time as it requires\n2. i don't need anyone, internet is my friend\n3. passion shouldn't get beaten by job market(i don't care about money, job and for me :\"passion matters\" and there should always be way of earning little money for survival and that's more than enough for very simple person like me).\n4. why am i asking about my career decision to nearby people? they will always tell me what to do based on what they are doing (they all tried to convince me that nothing is more important than competitive programming and without it you are nothing :) because they were all following the same path)so i should listen to \"MYSELF\" only and that is what i learnt from the alchemist book by Paulo Coelho :)\n\nand then this frustrated kid got lots of motivation from professor andrew ng(only teacher who could make me understand that ML matters,no matter where you are from) so thanks to my most favorite teacher :)\n\nafter finishing that i was like \"i know basic ML,i will do kaggling now\"\n\ni signed up in kaggle and found interest for computer vision but i saw now i need to learn a lot of new things that i didn't learn in andrew ng's machine learning class but i saw even a lot of people from non coding background here in kaggle and doing great job already,so i was extremely motivated and told me that \"you spend 3 years on C programming and finished teach yourself c book\" and solved few competitive problems as well, you at least know C,look a lot of people here came from physics,BBA etc background,if they can then you should do even better :)\n\ni see a lot of great teacher like andrew ng here and i also can always ask silly questions to them(if i don't understand and they never mind replying)\nthey are people like sir chris deotte, heng, andrew etc etc so i have nothing to worry about now :)\n\n\ni started kaggling less than 2 years ago\n\nThank you so much brother @mdfahimreshm and everyone here for your wishes! Without the support and guidance from the kaggle community, I wouldn't be where I am today. So thank you very much! :)\n\nToday i am very proud that i rejected all surrounding people's guidance and followed my own, which was toward \"my passion\" \nThe best decision i ever made is when \"i listened to myself\", otherwise i couldn't meet with so many awesome people like i have had in kaggle, thank you for teaching me \"Machine Learning\" :)",

"1159779": "Congratulation @mobassir you did a great job. ",
