      "content": "<p>The Series Instance UID tag is a unique identifier that specifies which series an image belongs to within a study.</p>\n<p>It's used to group images. For x-ray, it's standard to assign different series UIDs to each body part when a study covers more than one body part. If a study consists of chest and abdomen images, it should have two series, each with it's own Series Instance UID tag assigned to the images in it.</p>\n<p>Theoretically, that's how it works. In the real world, modality vendors program their protocols differently, and technologists may not acquire the images according to the specified protocol, which results images not being assigned the correct series UID.</p>\n<p>I don't think the Series Instance UID tag will have any relevance here, as it's meaningless in a single image study.</p>",
