"content": "<p>As of this writing the medal ranges displayed on the LB seem to be based on <strike>1000</strike> 999 teams, but there were certainly more than <strike>1000</strike> 999 in stage 1 (and there are certainly less in stage 2, so it's not clear where the <strike>1000</strike> 999 comes from). I gather this a glitch in the LB display, and the correct medal ranges will be based on something like 1400 teams. (There are 1445 in <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/c/rsna-pneumonia-detection-challenge/discussion/69998#latest-413441\">YaGana's PDF</a> of the stage 1 LB, but I would assume some will be disqualified, as is usually the case.)</p>\n\n<p>EDIT: <em>Now that medals have been awarded, I really don't understand. It appears they were awarded based on approximately 999 teams. (As Jonny Lomond points out in the comments, 1000 would imply 12 gold medals—but there is a discontinuity there.) I see from the profiles that #11 has received silver, #51 has received bronze, and #101 has received no medal. This only makes sense if there were approximately 446 disqualifications, which seems like both an unusually high number and a suspiciously precise number (given that it happens to fit the ranges displayed on the LB prior to disqualification). It seems likely there is an error in the awards. Otherwise there must be some rule that we haven't been told about or that is still unclear. Or maybe the medal award process just hasn't finished yet, and the teams below the current thresholds can expect to be upgraded when the process is complete?</em></p>",
