"rawMarkdown": "You are 100% correct of course. I am very grateful for all the hard work and opportunities these kernels give for me to learn. Much better than just reading and doing some random practice on my own. And there is a lot of work in all of that.\n\nI guess it is easier and more exciting to fork and see if you can benefit yourself, rather than to upvote to show appreciation, which is not visible for self in any way. Maybe forks could count for something as well. Probably many are more concerned about getting more votes for themselves, and maybe even gaming it :).",

All the kernels that I upvoted appear in the Favourites tab of the Kernels. \nI really don't want too many kernels to be there in my favourites. So I have actually taken off my upvotes for some of the kernels which I don't want to refer anymore. It's not bad intent, just that I don't want to clutter my favourites.</p>\n\n<p>As you can see multiplexing two features (Favourites and Upvotes) makes things complicated. As a feature request I would request Kaggle to provide a separate \"Add to favourites\" button. Then Upvoting just remains a way of thanking for useful content.</p>",

Well I'd answer if you use their skills to climb the LB the least you could do is upvote.\n\nHope this trend will reverse\n\nThanks for your help in keeping the community an enjoyable place.\n\nYours SINCERLY ;-)",

"417766": "This needs to be said. I am not the most productive person in the world. Little rewards help me in continuing to work. These range from a bar of snickers after a hard day in college to some upvotes on kaggle for my work. There is one logic that I apply to most things in my life:\n\nThere are two kinds of people in the world according to their attitude towards approaching any work in daily life:\n\n1. What if I don't do this? This is just a small thing. Won't make me any less successful/satisfied/appreciated/grateful/relaxed.\n\n2. Maybe it's a small thing. But how can I ever be more successful/satisfied/appreciated/grateful/relaxed in life if I can't even do this?\n\nSo here it fits like this:\n\n1. All work here is open-source. What is the point of upvoting? It's not like he/she's losing some money or I am gaining something.\n\n2. I will use his/her work to know gain insight regarding data and learn something new. I can at least upvote. It will be my way of thanking him/her.\n\nWell, I mostly choose the second approach. It has made me more productive, increased my stamina, improved my social life and what not. Now, it's your choice, people. Let me know what you think.",
"418528": "Well said.\n\nNote that it could be worse if down votes were allowed for kernels...\n\nIt is not a joke actually, as I see very useful posts being downvoted for not sensible reason. And the same logic you advocate for kernels applies to posts, I often see *thank you* responses without any corresponding upvote. Maybe newcomers don't get that upvotes are more valuable on Kaggle than a thank you. This said, a thank you is always nice to read!\n\nEdit. it seems you got a downvote on this post, which makes my point ;)",
"670330": "I'm up for an automatic upvote when you fork a kernel, I mean if you are going to use the kernel that another user made it is only fair to give them an upvote.\n\nIf you wish to downvote later by all means do it!",

"417993": "There is a little catch here from my beginner perspective. All the kernels that I upvoted appear in the Favourites tab of the Kernels. \nI really don't want too many kernels to be there in my favourites. So I have actually taken off my upvotes for some of the kernels which I don't want to refer anymore. It's not bad intent, just that I don't want to clutter my favourites.\n\nAs you can see multiplexing two features (Favourites and Upvotes) makes things complicated. As a feature request I would request Kaggle to provide a separate \"Add to favourites\" button. Then Upvoting just remains a way of thanking for useful content.\n",
"446257": "I totally agree with the automatic upvoting after forking, but would like to add one thing. R-users work a lot with Rmarkdown locally. In that case, downloading the code instead of forking makes a lot of sense. I have done this several times, and also only one of my Rmd-kernels has more forks than upvotes. I just checked Heads or Tails' kernels as a reference ( @headsortails ) and noticed that he has 5100 votes and \"only\" 3600 forks.\n\nAlthough I have just published my first Python kernel, I would like to keep it fair for the Rmd guys ;-). My suggestion is to also do automatic upvoting after hitting the \"Download code\" button.",

",
"418416": "@Olivier, I agree 100%. I also noticed lately, even when people ask questions and someone answers, the person asking do not upvote which is strange. But forking a kernel and not upvoting it is really in bad taste.",
"417469": "You know... some of us, like me, just routinely forget to upvote. It's not ignorance, and it is certainly not malice. I am not much of an upvoter because I rarely use social networks (other than linkedin) and because, somewhere in my unconsciousness, I oppose against the constant tracking of my preferences.\n\nWhenever I think of it, I do upvote. But very often I just forget. It's the same on stackoverflow. I must have profited thousands of times from posts there, and maybe cast 50 or 100 upvotes.",

"426000": "I agree and not only upvote but if its used in submissions, the least that can be done is to credit the kernels forked. Kaggle team may be can enhance the forking to auto upvote.",

Now, you can only see the forkers who also made the fork public (I have had some novices forking my getting started kernels with accompanying self-votes. If people are aware of that, I think they might also upvote more often.",

"418077": "You're totally right and I personally upvote all the kernels I fork.\n\nJust one note to consider: I believe that Kaggle counts every fork, even multiple forks by one user, while one user can upvote only once.\n\nI sometimes fork one public kernel multiple times throughout the time (to test different ideas). I didn't find a way to get back to previous version in one kernel (like fork of public kernel -&gt; version 1 -&gt; version 2 -&gt; version 3 -&gt; dead end, i want to go back ... I would have to rewrite all the changes manually -&gt; new fork is easier). Maybe I'm too stupid, I just didn't figure it out how to make it better.",
"418019": "Totally agree with you. My own kernel in google analytics competition has 96 forks but just 29 upvotes. It doesn't make sense that on one hand people use kernels to climb up on LB but won't do something as a simple upvote in return. ",
