  "content": "<p>Is it acceptable for us to use external datasets that have licenses stipulating that they must be used for non-commercial purposes?</p>\n\n<p>For example, the license to <a href=\"https://waymo.com/open/about/\">Waymo's dataset</a> says \"Waymo grants You a non-exclusive, royalty-free, personal license to use, reproduce, and modify the Dataset <strong>for Non-commercial Purposes only</strong>\" They define non-commercial purposes as \"'Non-commercial Purposes' means research, teaching, scientific publication and personal experimentation. Non-commercial Purposes include use of the Dataset to perform benchmarking for purposes of academic or applied research publication. Non-commercial Purposes does not include purposes primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation, or purposes intended for or directed towards litigation, licensing, or enforcement, even in part.\"</p>\n\n<p>I've also found datasets from <a href=\"https://bdd-data.berkeley.edu/\">Berkeley</a> and <a href=\"https://www.nuscenes.org/overview\">nuScenes</a> which have similar restrictions.</p>\n\n<p>While I mainly participate in these competitions as a learning experience and I figure Peking University is unlikely to use the results for commercial purposes, I'm still concerned some people may consider this competition commercial, due to the prize money which is involved. </p>",
