Would it be appropriate to submit an abstract by the first deadline and then if I did not finish with a high enough rank to not submit the second abstract? Secondly what is the policy on team mergers? Kaggle allows mergers up until the 17th of February, but the abstract submission asks for number of coauthors. Indeed, if you go to the last page of the submission process you have to commit to :&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>&quot;By uploading this paper I agree to comply with the conference registration policy and to attend the conference and present the paper if my manuscript is accepted.</strong></p>\n<p><strong>I understand that, in the event I am unable to attend the conference for any reason, it is my responsibility to insure that the paper is presented at the conference, by one of my co-authors.</strong></p>\n<p><strong>I also understand that failure to do so may result in the IEEE EMBS imposing sanctions or restrictions on my and my co-authors' participation in future IEEE EMBS conferences&quot;</strong></p>\n<p>I guess you are free to submit something and not attend the conference in case of disappointing results (no one will point a gun at you), but you can be 'flagged' by the IEEE EMBS society. This may be a problem&nbsp;if you regularly attend such conferences.</p>\n<p>This is one of the main reason we choose not to submit a paper, but still compete for the leaderboard.</p>",

      "content": "<p>Generally speaking, you first submit an abstract or a full paper, get reviewed and and accepted (or not), and then you have to submit the final version including modifications asked by the reviewers.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Since we are talking about 1 page abstract that will be published only the &nbsp;conference website&nbsp;and not on the proceedings, my guess is that the acceptance threshold will be very low, even more for the challenge related papers, where there is no obvious reason to be rejected.</p>\n<p>Your concerns are totally appropriate. The registration fees (and the travel expenses) are quit high, and since it's not a machine learning conference, the 'average kaggler' may not find a lot of benefits to attend (don't get me wrong, the conference is still interesting if you work in BCI or in biomedical engineering).&nbsp;</p>",

      "content": "<p>It would be great if the organizers of the conference allow the authors of the selected papers to extend their works to a 4 page paper to appear in the proceedings and be indexed in the IEEE&nbsp;Xplore.</p>\n<p>The papers will be more interesting because it is almost impossible to explain the ideas and the details of the solutions in just 1 page and&nbsp;I am sure that many people that right now are having doubts will send a paper because&nbsp;their work will be more visible.</p>",

If I've understood the rules correctly only those who have submitted an abstract and will be attending NER (indicated by NER in their team name) are eligible for the prizes. Although I finished 4th in the leaderboard, I believe I have the highest score of all teams whose name includes 'NER'. However I haven't received an email confirming this. Apologies If I've misunderstood the rules and I'm not eligible for the prize.</p>\n<p>Also, my one page abstract has been accepted and I am now in a position to submit the final version. However, the papercept website won't allow me to upload the final version without paying the full $1,030 registration fee by Friday, March the 6th. You mention that the organisers of NER may grant the prize winners a 50% reduction (and possibly more for the winner) in the fee. I was wondering&nbsp;how the reduction is claimed for?&nbsp;</p>",
