Our Chinese colleagues from Japan, who also graduated from the local university, introduced us to the West Lake, to the temples history and to various attractions around the city and around the West Lake. In Hangzhou it was the first time I saw a traffic accident with two bicycles that crashed one in another (it was really terrible). Also, in Hangzhou, in one evening, I realized that the custom of drinking tea was born here, in a tea house near the banks of West Lake, and I had the first time the revelation to be in one of the most authentic places on Earth, where people invented something that in time became part of our universal culture. There are so many traditions of enjoying tea, from Japanese tea ceremony to English 5 O'clock or Russian samovar but here, in Hangzhou, on the side of the West Lake, you can have the feeling that every other tradition is derived, and here is the real original.</p>",
