haha, since imagenet competition is officially over but they still want to encourage interested people in working towards better models, its up on Kaggle/Google Cloud -> Fei-Fei Li (one of the original organizer of Imagenet-LSVRC). It's a really good step imo, pretty sure Kaggle platform will be much easier to use than their website. (also popularity, access to data)

The challenges happen as CVPR/ICCV workshops afaik. That stopped. In object detection (this competition), ImageNet was never popular, COCO is and maybe OpenImages in the future.

In classification, I'd think it is because the progress is saturated on the dataset over the past 3-4yrs. The advent of AutoML and Neural Architecture Search seems to moving the state of the art a bit more now though. I'd also hypothesize that the organizers moved on to more impactful problems in computer vision :)
