  "content": "<p>Hi folks,<br>\nI am very new to Kaggle, but not a new Data Scientist, and as a data scientist, understanding what is the meaning of the data really stands out in the solution of the problem statement.</p>\n<p>Hence taking it step by step, going through part1, part2 , part3 , part4 and including the notes for HMS - Harmful Brain Activity Classification Kaggle problem.</p>\n<p>This thread is for part - 1.</p>\n<p>Part 1 Notes<br>\nYB Link : <a href=\"url\" target=\"_blank\">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9NLrhj0x-M</a><br>\nImages used : <a href=\"url\" target=\"_blank\">https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qpyd9ShhJhWUW62_RNnvRC9keqcx7u3w/view?usp=sharing</a></p>\n<p>Video covers these three concepts:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>History behind the creation of standardized critical care EEG terminology.</li>\n<li>Main term #1.</li>\n<li>Main term #2.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Lawrence J. Hirsch gives a very good outline of the terminologies introduced, and how each time sequence with particular behavior caters to specific terminology.<br>\n[1] image<br>\nNow as mentioned, the study of the terminologies reflect the time sequence and multiple research was done on the behavior of the sequence. In the image below, you can see main term #1 and main term #2 , and if you read the terms, it starts giving the idea of how the behavior led to a specific terminology.</p>\n<p>[2] image<br>\n** Main term 1 - \"Where the pattern is\"<br>\n** Main term 2 - \"The actual specific pattern\"</p>\n<p>[3] image<br>\nMain difference of periodic and rhythmic is mainly \"periodic\" has nearly regular intervals between them, if not, its \"rhythmic\".</p>\n<p>[4] image<br>\n[5] image<br>\nAlternating spike and wave comes to be no rhythmic and periodic because of its structure.</p>\n<p>[6]image<br>\nNow, even delta of the specific types of waves tend to have different terminologies , the below image show \"rhythmic delta\"<br>\n[7] image<br>\nNow each wave can be categorized by following main-1 following main-2 and viza-viz, there is no specific “algorithm”, that’s where manual interpretation comes in, and this is where the competition focus comes from.<br>\n[8] image</p>\n<p>Screenshot of how they look up for these patterns:<br>\n[9] image</p>\n<p>Seeing the video from 9:00 to around the end of it, really gives the idea of how main#1 and main#2 terminologies help is specifying the types of waves and the discussion between the folks is not to be missed!</p>\n<p>I am no expert in EEG data so if there is something wrong in the understanding, please mention in the comments.</p>\n<p>Thank you!</p>",
