  "content": "<h2>Thank You</h2>\n<p>Thank you to Kaggle and H &amp; M for this enjoyable and educational competition!</p>\n<p>Thank you <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/paweljankiewicz\" target=\"_blank\">@paweljankiewicz</a> for opening up the topic for me - and I'm sure for many others - and for generously continuing to share and respond to myriad queries throughout the competition.<br>\nThank you <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/lihaorocky\" target=\"_blank\">@lihaorocky</a>, for generously shared many details of his methodology throughout the competition.<br>\nThank you <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/cdeotte\" target=\"_blank\">@cdeotte</a> for your notebooks that were <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/h-and-m-personalized-fashion-recommendations/discussion/324076\" target=\"_blank\">a huge help for me</a> in this competition. <br>\nThank you <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/titericz\" target=\"_blank\">@titericz</a> (Giba) for your tips on managing memory and cudf usage.</p>\n<h3>Takeaways</h3>\n<p>I set out in this competition with a few goals:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>To \"own\" my work - only using them my own code. (Take ideas, not code)</li>\n<li>Setting up a proper system for working with Kaggle Notebooks</li>\n<li>Getting a solo silver</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Thank God, I was able to be successful in all three!</p>\n<p>It was really a completely different experience working through everything myself, instead of copying public notebooks and trying to find some incremental improvements.  <br>\nMuch more fulfilling, much more of a learning experience - and much more effective!</p>\n<p>Taking the time to set up a proper system took time, but was worth it and made things so much easier.</p>\n<ul>\n<li>I made git repo where I put whatever code I could, so I could leave keep my kaggle notebook clean and readable</li>\n<li>I set things up so I could control all parameters from one single dictionary</li>\n<li>I took the time to set up cv properly</li>\n<li>I optimized code so I could rapidly try experiments</li>\n</ul>\n<p>They were all worth the investment in the end, and made the experience more enjoyable and effective.</p>",

It is much more fulfilling to actually do the competition by yourself instead of patching different solutions and hoping for the best. Three hours before the deadline of the competition my rank was 1100 and due to the cleanliness of the system I had built in the last 3 hours my score jumped to bronze, which is my first bronze ever! </p>\n<p>Would you be willing to share a single notebook where you used your github code? I would very much like to copy this system :)</p>",

This was also the reason why I didn't create any example solution at the beginning - the description was sufficient to implement it and still have a room of improvement and new ideas.</p>",
