  "content": "<p>Welcome to the <strong>fourth edition of FungiCLEF!</strong> 🌿🍄  </p>\n<p>FungiCLEF has been growing each year, and in <strong>2025</strong>, we're for the first time challenging you to push the limits of <strong>few-shot classification for rare fungi species</strong>. </p>\n<p>Accurate identification of fungi is crucial for biodiversity research, and your work will help scientists and conservationists worldwide.  This year's dataset includes <strong>multiple photos of the same specimen, along with observation metadata</strong>, giving you a unique opportunity to explore new classification techniques.  </p>\n<p>As your hosts, we're here to help; just not with dataset secrets! 😉  </p>\n<h2>Meet the Team</h2>\n<p>👨‍🔬 <strong>Lukas Picek</strong> <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/picekl\" target=\"_blank\">@picekl</a> is a postdoctoral researcher at INRIA [France] and a PI at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen [Czechia], specializing in applied machine learning, including species recognition, species distribution modeling and animal identification. Since 2021, he has co-organized the CVPR-FGVC and LifeCLEF workshops and is the lead organizer of the newly accepted CVPR tutorial on Animal Re-identification. As a competition chair at FGVC workshops, he has helped organize or independently led multiple competitions with thousands of participants on Kaggle.</p>\n<p>🧑‍💻 <strong>Klára Janoušková</strong> <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/klaarka\" target=\"_blank\">@klaarka</a> is a PhD student at Czech Technical University in Prague, specializing in robust and context-aware image recognition. Her research focuses on fine-grained recognition, including fungi. She is a competition co-chair for the FGVC workshop.</p>\n<p>🔬 <strong>@Jiří Matas</strong> is a Professor at the Center for Machine Perception at the Czech Technical University in Prague. His research focuses on visual recognition, image retrieval, pattern recognition, and biometric authentication. He has contributed significantly to the fields of computer vision and machine learning, particularly in areas like wide-baseline matching and tracking. Professor Matas has also served as the program chair for major conferences like CVPR and ECCV.</p>\n<p>🦾 <strong>Jacob Heilmann-Clausen</strong> is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Globe Institute, specializing in fungal ecology and conservation. His research focuses on the role of fungi in ecosystems, biodiversity monitoring, and conservation strategies.
