We reviewed all submissions and selected the two best working notes to be honored with an award. This year's winners are:</p>\n<p><strong>Anthony Miyaguchi, Adrian Cheung, Murilo Gustineli, and Ashley Kim: \"Transfer Learning with Pseudo Multi-Label Birdcall Classification for DS@GT BirdCLEF 2024\"</strong> - Team <em>DS@GT</em></p>\n<p>and</p>\n<p><strong>Emiel Witting, Hugo de Heer, Jeffrey Lim, Cahit Tolga Kopar and Kristóf Sándor: \"Addressing the Challenges of Domain Shift in Bird Call\nClassification for BirdCLEF 2024\"</strong> - Team <em>Team Epoch</em></p>\n<p>Congratulations!</p>\n<p>Thank you to everyone who went through the process of submitting a working note, we will reference the PDFs once the proceedings have been published.</p>\n<hr>\n<p>Building accurate knowledge of the identity, geographic distribution, and evolution of species is essential for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. However, the routine identification of plants and animals in the field significantly hampers the aggregation of new data and knowledge. Identifying and naming living plants or animals is almost impossible for the public and often a challenging task for professionals and naturalists. Bridging this gap is a key challenge toward enabling effective biodiversity monitoring systems. The <a href=\"https://www.imageclef.org/LifeCLEF2024\" target=\"_blank\">LifeCLEF evaluation campaign</a> has been boosting and evaluating advances in this domain since 2011.</p>\n<p>Each year, participants of LifeCLEF publish their research as part of the CLEF workshop proceedings (e.g., <a href=\"https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3497/\" target=\"_blank\">CLEF 2023 Proceedings</a>). As in previous years, we encourage you to contribute to this research by publishing your solution as a working note, even if you're not among the top-scoring participants. Why should you do this? Here are a few reasons:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Publish original research and gain recognition as a scientist</li>\n<li>Make your solution accessible to a broad audience</li>\n<li>Earn citations and build your reputation</li>\n<li>Submitting a working note makes you eligible to present at CLEF 2024</li>\n</ul>\n<p>CLEF organizers provide a template to help you get started. Each working note should be between 4 and 8 pages long. I belive the competition allows post-deadline submissions which will still give you a score (even if it's not being ranked), this could be an avenue for still being able to submit.</p>",

"2830423": "Update 07/25/24:\n\nThis year, participants submitted 11 working notes, 8 of which were accepted for the 2024 CLEF proceedings. We reviewed all submissions and selected the two best working notes to be honored with an award. This year's winners are:\n\n**Anthony Miyaguchi, Adrian Cheung, Murilo Gustineli, and Ashley Kim: \"Transfer Learning with Pseudo Multi-Label Birdcall Classification for DS@GT BirdCLEF 2024\"** - Team *DS@GT*\n\nand\n\n**Emiel Witting, Hugo de Heer, Jeffrey Lim, Cahit Tolga Kopar and Kristóf Sándor: \"Addressing the Challenges of Domain Shift in Bird Call\nClassification for BirdCLEF 2024\"** - Team *Team Epoch*\n\nCongratulations!\n\nThank you to everyone who went through the process of submitting a working note, we will reference the PDFs once the proceedings have been published.\n\n------------\n\nBuilding accurate knowledge of the identity, geographic distribution, and evolution of species is essential for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. The [LifeCLEF evaluation campaign](https://www.imageclef.org/LifeCLEF2024) has been boosting and evaluating advances in this domain since 2011.\n\nEach year, participants of LifeCLEF publish their research as part of the CLEF workshop proceedings (e.g., [CLEF 2023 Proceedings](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3497/)). As in previous years, we encourage you to contribute to this research by publishing your solution as a working note, even if you're not among the top-scoring participants. Why should you do this? Here are a few reasons:\n\n- Publish original research and gain recognition as a scientist\n- Make your solution accessible to a broad audience\n- Earn citations and build your reputation\n- Submitting a working note makes you eligible to present at CLEF 2024\n\nCLEF organizers provide a template to help you get started. Each working note should be between 4 and 8 pages long. If you have **something interesting** you tried or **a good ablation study**, we want to hear from you!\n\nAdditionally, we will review and rate all submitted working notes; **the two best papers will be awarded $2,500 each (independent of the final score!)**.\n\nFor more details on the review process, visit the “[Evaluation](https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/birdclef-2024/overview/evaluation)” subsection.\n\nCurious about what a working note looks like? Here are the two best working notes from last year:\n\n**Anthony Miyaguchi, Nathan Zhang, Murilo Gustineli and Chris Hayduk**: \"[Transfer Learning with Semi-Supervised Dataset Annotation for Birdcall Classification](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3497/paper-177.pdf)\"\n\n**Mario Lasseck**: \"[Bird Species Recognition using Convolutional Neural Networks with Attention on Frequency Bands](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3497/paper-175.pdf)\"\n\nThis is the timeline for working note submissions:\n\n- June 10th, 2024: Final Submission Deadline for competition\n- June 21st, 2024: Deadline for the submission of working notes\n- June 22nd - June 28th, 2024: Peer-review period\n- July 1st, 2024: Notification of acceptance\n- July 8th, 2024: Deadline for the submission of the camera-ready working notes\n- July 22nd, 2024: Announcement of best working note winners - NEW DATE: July 25 \n\n**Submission information:**\n\nWorking notes are published within CEUR-WS proceedings, resulting in an assignment of an individual DOI (URN) and an indexing by many bibliography systems, including DBLP. According to the CEUR-WS policies, a light review of the working notes will be conducted by LifeCLEF organizing committee to ensure quality. As an illustration, LifeCLEF 2022 working notes (task overviews and participant working notes) can be found within [CLEF 2023 CEUR-WS proceedings](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3497/). These proceedings are indexed by most bibliography repositories such as DBLP, Scopus, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, etc.\n\n**Submission template**\n\nPlease use the [LaTeX template provided by the organizers](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KPW1f5DBqZ7kX3CnMXgEQ9gSSSAul1KG/view?usp=sharing) for writing your working notes.\n\n**Submission through EasyChair**\n\nThe CLEF organizers published a PDF that explains the submission process in more detail, you can [download it here](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EK4PHw3OpEPwRG488RQDrKqiONlUNhWH/view?usp=sharing). Please note, the BirdCLEF submission deadline is June 21 not May 31 as mentioned in the PDF. However, the camera-ready submission deadline is July 8.\n\nWe look forward to your contributions!",

I lead the DS@GT team this year -- a pre-print version of our paper can be found on arXiv if you're curious: https://arxiv.org/abs/2407.06291\n\nThank you to the organizers for hosting this competition and helping advance the state of bird research and conservation!",
