We will post the URL to the PDF version of these working notes as soon as they are officially published.
\n
----- Original post -----
\n
Building accurate knowledge of the identity, the geographic distribution and the evolution of species is essential for a sustainable development of humanity, as well as for biodiversity conservation. However, the burden of the routine identification of plants and animals in the field is strongly penalizing the aggregation of new data and knowledge. Identifying and naming living plants or animals is actually almost impossible for the public, and often a difficult task for professionals and naturalists. Bridging this gap is a key challenge towards enabling effective biodiversity monitoring systems. The LifeCLEF evaluation campaign aims at boosting and evaluating the advances in this domain since 2011. (LifeCLEF mission statement)
\n
Each year, participants of LifeCLEF publish their research as part of the CLEF workshop proceedings (e.g., https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3180/). In this year’s edition, we would like you to contribute to this research by publishing your solution as a working note. Why should you do this? Here are a few reasons:
\n
\n
publish original research and be recognized as a scientist
\n
make your solution accessible to a broad audience
\n
earn citations and reputation
\n
submitting a working note makes you eligible to present at CLEF 2023
\n
\n
We will provide a template to get you started. If you publish a write-up of your solution, why not publish it as a paper? Each working note should be between 4 and 8 pages long.
\n
On top of that, we will review and rate all submitted working notes; the two best papers will be awarded $2,500 each (independent of the final score!).
\n
Go to the “Evaluation” subsection to see more details about how we will review.
\n
What does a working note look like? "2171989": "**Update July 12: Announcing winners of best paper awards**\n\n**Award winners**\n\nWe're happy to announce the winners of the best working note awards. Three hosts and one external reviewer judged the submissons and picked the two best submissions based on our [evaluation criteria](https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/birdclef-2023/overview/evaluation).\n\nAnd here are the winners:\n\n**Anthony Miyaguchi, Nathan Zhang, Murilo Gustineli and Chris Hayduk** (team DS@GT): \"*Transfer Learning with Semi-Supervised Dataset\nAnnotation for Birdcall Classification*\"\n\nand\n\n**Mario Lasseck** (team adsr): \"*Bird Species Recognition using Convolutional Neural Networks with Attention on Frequency Bands*\"\n\nThank you to everyone who submitted a working note and congratulations to the winners! We will post the URL to the PDF version of these working notes as soon as they are officially published.\n\n*----- Original post -----*\n\nBuilding accurate knowledge of the identity, the geographic distribution and the evolution of species is essential for a sustainable development of humanity, as well as for biodiversity conservation. ([LifeCLEF mission statement](https://www.imageclef.org/LifeCLEF2023))\n\nEach year, participants of LifeCLEF publish their research as part of the CLEF workshop proceedings (e.g., [https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3180/](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3180/)). In this year’s edition, we would like you to contribute to this research by publishing your solution as a working note. Why should you do this? Here are a few reasons:\n\n- publish original research and be recognized as a scientist\n- make your solution accessible to a broad audience\n- earn citations and reputation\n- submitting a working note makes you eligible to present at [CLEF 2023](http://clef2023.clef-initiative.eu)\n\nWe will provide a template to get you started. If you publish a write-up of your solution, why not publish it as a paper? Each working note should be between 4 and 8 pages long.\n\n**On top of that, we will review and rate all submitted working notes; the two best papers will be awarded $2,500 each (independent of the final score!).**\n\nGo to the “[Evaluation](https://www.kaggle.com/c/birdclef-2023/overview/evaluation)” subsection to see more details about how we will review.\n\nWhat does a working note look like? Here are a few (admittedly very extensive) examples of previous years:\n\n- [Bird Species Recognition via Neural Architecture Search](http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2696/paper_188.pdf) by Markus Mühling, Jakob Franz, Nikolaus Korfhage, Bernd Freisleben\n- [Bird Species Identification in Soundscapes](http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2380/paper_86.pdf) by Mario Lasseck\n- [Bird Identification from Timestamped, Geotagged Audio Recordings](http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2125/paper_181.pdf) by Jan Schlüter\n\nThis is the timeline for working note submissions: \n\n- May 24th, 2023: Final Submission Deadline for competition\n- June 7th, 2023: Deadline for the submission of working notes\n- June 8th - June 22nd, 2023: Peer-review period\n- June 23rd, 2023: Notification of acceptance\n- July 7th, 2023: Deadline for the submission of the camera-ready working notes\n- July 12th, 2023: Announcement of best working note winners\n\n**Submission information:**\n\nWorking notes are published within CEUR-WS proceedings, resulting in an assignment of an individual DOI (URN) and an indexing by many bibliography systems, including DBLP. According to the CEUR-WS policies, a light review of the working notes will be conducted by LifeCLEF organizing committee to ensure quality. As an illustration, LifeCLEF 2022 working notes (task overviews and participant working notes) can be found within [CLEF 2022 CEUR-WS](https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3180/) proceedings. These proceedings are indexed by most bibliography repositories such as DBLP, Scopus, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, etc.\n\n**Submission template**\n\nPlease use the Word or LaTeX template [provided by the organizers](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r2lNOteMNoQrhQGUat6VHPUnwFAgR8Nz?usp=sharing) for writing your working notes.\n\n**Submission through EasyChair**\n\nYou can submit your working notes through EasyChair. Please log into EasyChair using [this link](https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=clef2023). After you're logged in, click \"New Submission\" and select \"Multimedia Retrieval in Nature (LifeCLEF)\" as track. Fill out the form (please make sure to exactly match author names and affiliations) and at the bottom of the form select \"Task 1 - BirdCLEF\". After upload, you can update your submission anytime.\n\nSubmission deadline is June 7th.\n\nThe CLEF organizers published a PDF that explains the submission process in more detail, you can [download it here](https://clef2023.clef-initiative.eu/resources/wn_instructions.pdf). Please note, the BirdCLEF submission deadline is June 7 *not* June 5 as mentioned in the PDF. However, the camera-ready submission deadline is July 7.\n\nIf you have any questions, please let us know below.",

Based on [LifeCLEF 2023](https://www.imageclef.org/LifeCLEF2023), the deadline for submitting working note is June 5th, while in this discussion the date is shown as June 7th. Which one should I refer to?\n2. Is there a template (e.g., latex, word) for submitting the work note?\n3. I am not sure where to submit it, could you please help direct me to the submission website (I assume it's not the [CLEF 2023](http://clef2023.clef-initiative.eu/index.php?page=Pages/cfp.html) ? \n\nThank you.",
"2249549": "We will update the submission guidelines shortly. So far, there hasn't been an official template provided by the organizers, so we're still waiting on that. However, our submission schedule is slightly behind the official schedule, so June 7th is correct. Submissions will happen through EasyChair and we'll provide more information soon. Thanks for contributing, looking forward to reading your working note!",

In that case, can I first submit the work note without filling the institution forum, and resubmit the work note with company name filled after I get the approval after the deadline?",
