I joined this competition because I am a passionate birdwatcher (who knows if I'll be able to actually finish, but it's nice to learn with a project that one is motivated about). Eventually I hope to learn to navigate Kaggle and find other exercises as well that are easier to cut my teeth on. : )</p>",

Meanwhile, I'm newly active on Kaggle. My goal was to gradually work my way though the beginner challenges, but this has grabbed my attention. Perhaps I'm getting in way over my head, but at least I'm learning in the process.</p>\n<p>However, I anticipate a real time-management tension between working on this project and being outside for spring songbird migration, which peaks here in the central US during late April and early May, right during the heart of this competition. At this time of year, my bedside table hosts routinely consulted copies of  <a href=\"http://www.thewarblerguide.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Warbler Guide</a> and Pieplow's <a href=\"https://earbirding.com/blog/book\" target=\"_blank\">Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Eastern North America</a>, both great resources for the ear birder.       "content": "<p>I've been a birder for decades (with an eBird history going back to 2005), and I've been dabbling in recording bird sounds for the past few years (using just a smart phone). Meanwhile, I'm newly active on Kaggle. My goal was to gradually work my way though the beginner challenges, but this has grabbed my attention. Perhaps I'm getting in way over my head, but at least I'm learning in the process.</p>\n<p>However, I anticipate a real time-management tension between working on this project and being outside for spring songbird migration, which peaks here in the central US during late April and early May, right during the heart of this competition. At this time of year, my bedside table hosts routinely consulted copies of  <a href=\"http://www.thewarblerguide.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Warbler Guide</a> and Pieplow's <a href=\"https://earbirding.com/blog/book\" target=\"_blank\">Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Eastern North America</a>, both great resources for the ear birder. Perhaps they'll serve double duty this year as I both prepare for migration and ponder this competition.</p>",
