Welcome to the Bengali.AI Handwritten Grapheme Classification competition!
\n\nBengali.AI is a handful of people committed to creating Bengali language centric datasets. The datasets are open-sourced to promote research and innovation. Our current focus is detecting Bengali handwritten text which is still a challenging issue due to the complexity of the language.
\n\nWe are taking a grapheme oriented approach to tackle the complexity. If we can build a model that can detect all possible graphemes, we shall take a major step in building a Bengali optical character recognition (OCR) system. This is a novel approach (in the case of Bengali) and we are pretty excited to see the outcomes!
\n\nWe will shortly follow up with more details on the definition of graphemes, their components and the statistics behind selecting the samples.
