If only predictions are evaluated, what prevents me (or anyone) to just pick some of the codes submitted and run it to get predictions and submit the resulting predictions?
",

      "content": "
Nothing prohibits you from doing so. Most of the publicly available notebooks are \"starter code\" - designed to share broad insights and \"raise the floor\" (if you will) of where to begin on the competition. It also serves as fantastic exploratory data analysis for the competition. It's highly discouraged (and usually prohibited) for Kagglers to share notebooks in the final week of the competition, to maintain the spirit of the competition until the end. As many Kagglers enter competitions to learn, it's also understood that it may not best serve you to simply copy/paste a notebook without hoping to modify or learn from/enhance what you're copying.
\n
Kagglers will often share more of their notebooks and what helped them succeed after the competition is finished, to contribute back to the community with what they used and for others to learn, but as The Devastator noted, it's highly unlikely that simply copy/pasting a publicly available notebook (which is open sourced by nature of being public on Kaggle), would be of significant benefit to you regarding your final leaderboard position.
",

Sometimes, especially solutions severely overfitted to the public leaderboard, will make you to experience, at the competition end, the nice sensations of sliding from near the top to the middle of the leaderboard (shakedown).
",
