And thanks for organizing this Chris; this is certainly a promising competition format that I’m sure led to no shortage of headaches for the kaggle team. There were some interesting perspectives in the winning submissions, and it certainly seems as though the winners were chosen based on being the best representation of a given “class” of suggestion. </p>\n\n<p>I am also in agreement with <a href=\"/travisbuhrow\">@travisbuhrow</a> regarding getting some kind of feedback. Obviously, not all participants can be given thorough feedback. However, it would be great if future analytics competitions had an “honorable mention” list of next top 10-20 competitors, where the prize is simply a pragraph or so of personalized feedback on why their suggestion didn’t end up “in the money”.</p>\n\n<p>That requirement on the judge side would likely increase the quality of future submissions as well as ensure that people who put in the time and effort to put forth a quality solution don’t become jaded to this competition format. Additionally, it requires the competition organizer thoroughly think through each submission while adding a layer of transparency to the decision making.</p>\n\n<p>Thanks again</p>",

It might be difficult to provide individual feedback, I might suggest that an 'Examiners Report' be produced for these competitions, detailing according to relevant judging criteria, what strong candidates did vs weak candidates etc. I think this might be the most helpful feedback universally with least additional overhead. Well done to the winners, really like some of the graphs in John Millers submission, they are really clean and clear!</p>",

You must think outside the box on this in order for punt to stay around for the long haul. It's how players prove themselves so \"enabling the punt returner from fielding the football\" should not be an end all be all. Same thing goes for individual rule changes on punt team. We must recognize that we already changed kickoffs to the point where special teams players have a significantly less chance of proving themselves on the field. Player's helmets are already going through major changes and I think we can see that this season. Players are colliding helmets and getting up more often this year then ever. If they are indeed perfecting (or making it better) the helmet than we can afford to have some leniency on rule changes such as ones that increase prevention of the ball from being in the field of play. Forcing fielded punt reductions and increasing fair catches seems counter-intuitive to football's overall picture. Counter intuitive in a sense that you are avoiding a problem instead of preventing a problem. </p>",

I know it would be a lot to ask you to provide specific feedback to each individual submission (as much as I'd like to hear it for ours), but some general feedback to the group on what was valued (and what wasn't) would be really helpful to learn from for future competitions like this.</p>",

    "458181": "# Congratulations!\n\nThank you to everyone who participated in the first analytics competition and thanks to the NFL for being a great host! We're all grateful for the hard work and dedication we've seen in this short competition. I don't know about everyone else, but punt plays will never be the same for me again :)\n\n\n### Winners\n\n*John Miller*<br>\n\nJohn proposed three rule changes for increasing fair catches, changing coverage of players, and using helmet sensors to monitor deceleration. His summary slides had a clean and unique style which would make for a nice presentation that I would happily sit through!\n\n[https://www.kaggle.com/jpmiller/nfl-punt-analytics](https://www.kaggle.com/jpmiller/nfl-punt-analytics)<br><br>\n\n*Jeff Rayvid*<br>\n\nJeff he spent the last few weeks digging into the data and decided on two simple and enforceable rule changes. "458184": "Congratulations to all the winners, it was a bit tiresome fun I had while working in this competition, learned a lot obviously.\nBit disappointed, not for myself but for @robmulla, his notebook deserves something. \nAnyway I'll try again next year hopefully with better knowledge.\nCan you provide all kernels ranking please apart from the winners ?",
    "458185": "Congratulations to all the winners! Really excellent work done by all and it's well deserved.\nI was bummed not to be selected but I'll just use it as motivation for the next challenge!",
    "458203": "Congrats to the winners! Good luck in Atlanta - I look forward to hopefully seeing some of your suggestions implemented next year!\n\nChris - thanks for all of the time and effort on your end! I really enjoyed this one.\n\nI'm wondering - will there be any kind of feedback for the group? I know it would be a lot to ask you to provide specific feedback to each individual submission (as much as I'd like to hear it for ours), but some general feedback to the group on what was valued (and what wasn't) would be really helpful to learn from for future competitions like this.",
    "458218": "Congrats to the winners! \n\nI am also in agreement with @travisbuhrow regarding getting some kind of feedback. Obviously, not all participants can be given thorough feedback. However, it would be great if future analytics competitions had an “honorable mention” list of next top 10-20 competitors, where the prize is simply a pragraph or so of personalized feedback on why their suggestion didn’t end up “in the money”.\n\nThat requirement on the judge side would likely increase the quality of future submissions as well as ensure that people who put in the time and effort to put forth a quality solution don’t become jaded to this competition format. Additionally, it requires the competition organizer thoroughly think through each submission while adding a layer of transparency to the decision making.\n\nThanks again",
    "458271": "Good suggestion about feedback! It might be difficult to provide individual feedback, I might suggest that an 'Examiners Report' be produced for these competitions, detailing according to relevant judging criteria, what strong candidates did vs weak candidates etc. I think this might be the most helpful feedback universally with least additional overhead. Well done to the winners, really like some of the graphs in John Millers submission, they are really clean and clear!",
    "458298": "Congrats!",
    "458333": "Congratulations to all the winners!\n\nWe were kind of hoping to get into final four and have a chance to present our work in Atlanta so we did not share our slides before. There is no reason to hide it anymore, so we started to share additional details about us in a [separate topic](https://www.kaggle.com/c/NFL-Punt-Analytics-Competition/discussion/78062). \n\nAnyway thanks for organizing the competition. We learned a lot during this month. It was also a good excuse to stay up late and watch as many games as possible.",
    "458339": "Just out of curiosity: who are \"we\" in this case? I think you seemed to be on your own ;-)",
    "458343": "congrats winners!ticket to superbowl",
    "458353": "Just follow the link ;)",
    "458359": "Congratulations to all of the winners! Best of luck presenting in Atlanta.\n\nI would love to know some of the honorable mention submissions or who else was seriously considered to be in the top 4.",
    "458435": "Very cool! Congrats to everyone. These are great examples to emulate for the next competition.",
    "458436": "Congratulations to the winners. Job well done and best of luck in your presentations. Please don't change too much in terms of punt. Counter intuitive in a sense that you are avoiding a problem instead of preventing a problem.",
    "458437": "Same beluga from GB?",
    "458454": "Congrats to all ! Very impressive work.",
    "458543": "Hi, Chris! This was my first Kaggle experience. Would it be possible to get any feedback on my entry?",
    "458554": "Wow! excellent work guys, congratulation to all the winner!",
    "458590": "Writing 10 paragraphs, 1 to each of the next top 10 contestants, does not add undue overhead. You’d be looking at 20 minutes tops for each response, which would end up being less than a half day of work. This can even be delivered in bullet-point format.\n\nTransparency in the decision making is really important in any subjective competition. Without that transparency, I can see the pool of people willing to compete in these competitions dwindling rapidly over time, particularly if you happen to be someone whose suggestion mirrors a winning suggestion.",
    "458735": "Congratulations to everyone. However, the rules of the contest said ONE rule only and 3 of the winners have more than 1 rule. I feel this puts those of us who only submitted one rule at a huge disadvantage. If you are going to have a contest rule, then the winners should be chosen according the rules.",
    "458743": "That presentation looks fabulous!",
    "458746": "Hi Sandra. In section 6 in the rules under the heading Applicable only to the Data Science Theme: it says \"Solution Efficacy - Have you clearly demonstrated, through your data analysis, that you have an understanding of what play features may be associated with concussions and how your proposed rule change(s) will reduce these injuries? Your kernels should be easy to understand, and the analysis should be reproducible.\". Given that its says rule change(s) I take it that multiple rule changes were allowed.\n\nAlso congratulations to the winners I enjoyed reading your solutions.",
    "459199": "There was a discussion thread from one of the moderators that said specifically pick your best rule. And only 1 rule.",
    "459219": "Hi Sandra. I'm not sure which thread you are talking about specifically but the question was asked quite early in the competition regarding multiple rule changes by jleecook where Megan O' Connell (member of the Kaggle team) says they are valid submissions. Heres the thread: https://www.kaggle.com/c/NFL-Punt-Analytics-Competition/discussion/74730",
